Welcome to Reception/Year 1’s class page. We always try to work hard and have fun every day. We live out our school mission statement ‘May Christ be seen in us’ through our actions and relationships with other people.
We really enjoyed our topics during the first term. Over the next few weeks we will be exploring which materials the three little pigs should use to build their houses. We will be answering questions such as what are the advantages and disadvantages of using straw, wood and bricks for different structures? Which materials were used to build our school and why were they chosen? And we will be exploring how you can build a bridge using only paper.
In Geography we have been learning about different UK cities and the interesting things you might see if you visited them.
We try really hard to give our best effort in everything we do and work hard to earn awards. When we have read 5 reading books we earn a reading award. We also gain stickers for our charts by working hard and being kind. Once we have filled our sticker chart we are allowed a prize from the golden box.
What happens when?
Homework is handed out on a Friday and is to be completed and returned to school on a Monday. For Year 1 children spellings are given out on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday. Reading Books are changed on a Tuesday and we ask that parents make a small comment in the reading record after listening to their children read. This term our P.E day is Tuesday and the children are being taught dance by a professional dancer.
How can I help my child?
I appreciate all of the support you give your children at home. If you are able to listen to them read regularly and can offer support with their homework I am sure you will enjoy seeing the progress your children will make.
Many thanks for all your support.
Thank you for this School year. Thank you for all our talents. During this year please help us to work hard and use the talents you have given us. Thank you for the friends we love, help us to use kind words and actions towards them. Please keep us safe every day as we work and play.
