Mrs Williams/ Mrs Bedford – Year 2
It is lovely to see all of the children back at school and keen to learn.
It was a surprise for me to be teaching in Year 2 for this half term, but lovely to be back with my old Reception class again.
For the first few weeks we will be revisiting maths skills from Year 1, to build up the children’s confidence with numbers and place value. We will then move on to addition and subtraction. We will also be learning our multiplication tables and the related division facts
To get the children back in to the way of writing again, we have started the term off with looking at the features of information texts, before moving on to stories and poems.
As the childen didn’t do the national phonics screening check that is required by all pupils in Year1, we are continuing with Read Write Inc. this half term to boost the children’s phonic knowledge.
In RE our topics for this half term are Beginnings and Signs and Symbols.
We have some exciting topics to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding, including Animals, The Great Fire of London and the Gun Powder Plot.
In Art we are looking at portraits and famous artists. We have started with looking at the work of Pablo Picasso, especially his blue period, to learn about how colours can be used to convey emotions.
